WebNov 8, 2024 · Center drive shaft U-joint failures on models over 180hp was common on half of them in the first 3000 to 5000 hours. Front axle seals, pins and sun/ring gears needing rebuild were less common on a couple, due to higher hours with no oil change. With one in the 8000 to 10000 hour range, look for good maintenance history on it to be sure. They were dropped in the 60's due to the lack of component reliability from an outside vendor. They were dropped in the 80's due the merger with CASE. The 10s have a smaller axle diameter then the 20s. The differential in the 10s have bushings, where the 20s are bearings. If I were buying the focus would be more on the 20s.
